Description:

Position Summary: In keeping with our Organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve; the Activity Assistant is responsible for implementing the facility’s activities and events under the supervision of the Activity Director. They consistently engage Residents in familiar routines of daily living through personalized familiar tasks that Residents enjoyed doing in the past, and that can still bring a sense of success, meaning, and purpose in the present.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

- Participates in the development and implementation of recreational activities that meet the interests, needs and capabilities of participants under the supervision of the Activity Director.

- Implements the Activity Program in accordance with the planned monthly calendar and as assigned by the Activity Director, and responsible for ensuring planned activities meet specific Resident needs that include large groups, small groups and individual attention.

- Lead and/or assist in large groups, small groups, 1:1’s, and individual activities such as exercise, arts and crafts, games and current events.

- Assist in organizing of special events and outings, in collaboration with the Activity Director. This includes proper communication of the events to the community.

- Perform preparation and cleanup of activities by putting away supplies and straightening out activity areas.

- Complete necessary documentation and reporting as assigned by the Activity Director.

- Notifies supervisor and ED immediately if an accident or incident occurs with a Resident.

- Adhere to privacy, respect, and confidentiality of all residents, staff, and community.

- Meet/exceed established performance goals. Additional performance requirements may be

- communicated.

- Job Knowledge -Demonstrate a thorough understanding of his/her job processes. and procedures. Efficiently use resources (including staff and management) to obtain additional knowledge.

- Cooperativeness -Demonstrate a 'can do' attitude by responding positively to instructions.

- Follow instructions and work harmoniously with others to complete the job or task.

- Commitment -Commit to his/her job and to the success of the company. Take initiative to offer ideas to improve processes or results.

- Perform other tasks as required.

- Ability to work with people with physical and mental disabilities including those using profanity, derogatory language and the like.

Supervisory Responsibility: There is no supervisory responsibility in this position.

Requirements:

Required/Desired Qualifications:

Education, Training, and Experience:

- High School Graduate or equivalent required.

- Experience working with senior groups, or in leading/assisting with group activities preferred.

- Knowledge of and experience with various types of arts and crafts preferred.

Specific skills, knowledge, and abilities:

- Ability to organize and perform assignments with minimal supervision.

- Must be able to work cooperatively with others in the department and facility.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Must be able to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

- Basic computer knowledge is needed.

- May be required to have or obtain a CDL/Chauffer’s License and have a clean driving record.

Other Special Requirements:

  • Tolerate potential exposure to blood, body tissues, and fluids with occasional exposure to hazardous materials and infectious diseases.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate modern office equipment.
