Part Time Position (30 hours / week)

Buddy Up for Life (BUFL) is a non-profit organization that exists to serve individuals with Down syndrome by providing a fun, active, and supportive environment for our Athletes and Students to grow both physically and personally by engaging in activities that impact athletic, social, and emotional development.

BUFL provides uniquely designed programs through three pillars of impact: Health & Wellness (Tennis, Fitness, Pickleball, Cardio & Core, and Zumba), Education (Safety, Cooking, Communication, Finance, and Technology), and Friendship (Summer Camp and Connections).

BUFL seeks an Education Director to oversee the Education pillar which provides ongoing programming to students with Down syndrome ages 14 and above. The Education Director is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of Buddy Up for Life’s Life Skills programs which includes Communication for Life, Cooking for Life, Finance for Life, Technology for Life, Safety for Life, Core Concepts, and Communities for Life. The Education Director ensures each program reflects best practices, responds to participant needs, and is delivered with fidelity across settings. Additional focus on formalizing and standardizing content for consistent delivery as well as publication and licensing. The Education Director reports directly to the Executive Director. Direct reports include 8 Buddy Up Life Skills Instructors and the Volunteer Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Update and refine existing Life Skills curricula and training materials based on instructor feedback, participant response, best practices, and industry trends
  • Manage the ongoing maintenance and development of Student evaluation mechanisms to identify indicators of course / level progression
  • Implement formal and standardized packaging of Life Skills curricula for internal and external distribution
  • Manage Life Skills program calendar in collaboration with each program instructor and partnering facility managers
  • Lead in-person training programs for the Life Skills instructors at the start of program sessions three times a year (August, January, and June); solicit feedback and iterate training curricula accordingly
  • Collaborate with Volunteer Manager in updating / restructuring virtual training programs
  • Stay up to date on education / adaptive programming / special education industry trends through regular research and identifying / attending virtual and local / regional conferences to attend; Present industry findings to Executive Director on a regular basis
  • Attend select classes to observe curriculum execution for program development purposes; serve as substitute instructor as needed.
  • Create program evaluation tools, including participant KPIs, to monitor and evaluate program effectiveness from the Student and caregiver perspective; develop tracking tools and manage reports to be shared with the Executive Director on a regular basis
  • Support cross-functional marketing efforts to recruit and retain Students and volunteer Buddies
  • Partner with Executive Director and Community Relations Director to support special events with student participation including (but not limited to) Life Skills classes with potential and existing sponsors or corporate partners, Annual Benefit Gala, and Open Houses

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
  • Minimum 4-6 years of related experience in Special Education
  • Interest in working with individuals with Down syndrome required
  • Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbally, to differentiate stakeholder groups including individuals with Down syndrome, parents, instructors, volunteers, community partners, etc.
  • experience leading and managing multiple individuals and adaptive programs
  • Proficient Google workspace skills
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability and willingness to undergo and pass a criminal background check
